Many questions. What are real out of control readings? (Though here in the UK its a different measurement). Also why are the targets set lower for women with GD than diabetic people? Why does GD cause polyhydramnios?

hi! If your blood sugar is over 90 consistently after fasting for 8+ hours (meaning first thing in the morning), then you have some degree of insulin resistance. If it's 120 or greater 2 hrs or more after eating, also a problem. We set the acceptable ranges a little lower in pregnancy because we anticipate some degree of insulin resistance due to the production of human placental lactogen by the placenta. When there is too much sugar in the blood, the kidneys try to get rid of it, and the extra sugar drags water into the kidney collecting tubules by osmosis. hope this helps!
